This is a John Rose, Coalport, new oval Teapot with the early pattern "Long leaf and roses" used by several factories including New Hall (pattern 208) and Keeling (217) and at least three others and is thus a very useful pattern for comparing the variations between the several potteries producing "Hybrid hardpaste porcelain " at its peak before "Bone china" usurped it in about 1810. This pot dates from ca 1800 and its only visible fault is a glaze crack which may reflect work to stabilise a body crack revealed by a strong light internally. The cover is a good example to show the minor differences between John Rose pieces and those of his brother Thomas at Anstiss Horton and Rose at the same period. 3852c
